Wetenschappelijke onderbouwing PRPP-Assessment & PRPP-Interventie
De klinische bruikbaarheid van de PRPP-Assessment is goed1-3, zowel in de Westerse cultuur als andere culturen4. Daarnaast zijn de psychometrische eigenschappen in diverse doelgroepen bestudeerd:
- Volwassenen en kinderen met en zonder beperkingen5
- Kinderen met leerproblemen6
- Kinderen met autisme en intellectuele beperkingen7,8
- Kinderen met mitochondriële aandoeningen9-12
- Schoolgaande kinderen13,14
- Volwassenen met (diverse) beperkingen15
- Volwassenen met niet aangeboren hersenletsel4, 16-18
- Volwassenen met de ziekte van Parkinson19,20
- Volwassenen met schizofrenie21,22
- Volwassenen met dementie23,24
- Volwassenen na CVA25
- Volwassenen na kanker26
Daarnaast is de PRPP-Assessment ook in diverse studies gebruikt als uitkomstmaat4,6-8,13,17,18,26-34. Ook is de PRPP@Work, een gestandaardiseerde en methodische toepassing van het PRPP-Assessment in een werkcontext bestudeerd35,36. Op basis van al deze studies1-36 kan worden geconcludeerd dat de betrouwbaarheid, validiteit en responsiviteit voldoende tot goed is. Voor specifiekere informatie kan er per doelgroep gekeken worden naar het desbetreffende onderzoek.
De PRPP-Interventie is gebaseerd op evidence over cognitieve strategietraining. Een systematische review37 toont aan dat cognitieve revalidatie bijdraagt aan het verbeteren van algemeen cognitief functioneren. Daarnaast draagt gestructureerde cognitieve revalidatie bij aan het verbeteren van het handelen. Er zijn ook diverse onderzoeken gericht naar de PRPP-Interventie gedaan, waaronder met:
- Volwassenen met traumatisch hersenletsel, agitatie en in post-traumatisch amnesische (PTA) fase. Hierbij was zichtbaar dat de gestructureerde-PRPP-Interventie significante verbetering geeft in de informatieverwerking17, 29
- Kinderen met leerproblemen. Hierbij is de PRPP-Interventie gecombineerd met de benadering van het Four-Quadrant Model (4QM). De combinatie van deze interventies zorgde ervoor dat de kinderen beter in staat waren om informatieverwerking strategieën in te zetten tijdens het leren28.
- Basisschoolkinderen waarbij verminderde sociale competenties een drempel waren om te kunnen participeren in spel op het schoolplein (pauze). Met behulp van de PRPP-Interventie verbeterde hun sociale vaardigheid30.
- Volwassenen met een bovenarmprothese. In deze studies is door de PRPP-Interventie zowel het beheersniveau van de taak als het gebruik van cognitieve strategieën verbeterd met als resultaat een verbeterde inzet van de prothese38,39.
- Kinderen met mitochondriële aandoeningen. Onderzoek bij een kleine heterogene groep kinderen met mitochondriële aandoeningen toont aan dat de PRPP-Interventie in een home-based videocoaching programma leidde tot verbetering van 8 van de 9 doelen op activiteitenniveau. Daarnaast werd de toepasbaarheid van de PRPP-Interventie in een home-based video coachingsprogramma verkent en werd de potentie gezien11.
Voor meer informatie over de toepassing van de PRPP-Interventie (het behandelprotocol) of de specifieke uitkomsten verwijzen we graag naar de desbetreffende studies. Daarnaast is het raadzaam om de ontwikkelingen te blijven monitoren. Zo is er in Scandinavië momenteel een onderzoek gaande naar de PRPP-Interventie bij volwassenen met hersenletsel40, welke ook al eerste resultaten heeft41.
